Legendary Mongol general and one of Genghis Khan's 'Four Dogs of War', who earned his name 'The Arrow' by shooting Genghis Khan's horse in battle and went on to conquer the Qara Khitai.
Biographical Record
Born Zurgadai of the Tayichi'ud clan, he shot Genghis Khan's horse out from under him during a battle in 1201. Captured, he boldly confessed that he had fired the arrow and promised that if spared, he would serve faithfully. Genghis named him 'Jebe' ('Arrow') and made him a commander.
In 1218, Jebe conquered the Qara Khitai empire with only 20,000 horsemen by declaring freedom of religion for the oppressed Muslim population. Alongside Subutai, he commanded the legendary 5,000-mile reconnaissance raid around the Caspian Sea, routing Georgian, Cuman, and Russian armies at the Kalka River before his untimely death.
