Jean Jaurès was a French socialist leader, orator, philosopher, and historian. Co-founder of the newspaper L'Humanité and leader of the SFIO, he was a staunch defender of Alfred Dreyfus, an architect of the 1905 law on the Separation of Churches and the State, and an impassioned pacifist assassinated on the eve of World War I.
