Biographical Record
Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858–1937) was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, returning to Presidency College in Kolkata as professor of physics. In November 1895, Bose gave the world's first public demonstration of wireless millimeter microwave transmission (60 GHz), ringing a bell and igniting gunpowder through walls ahead of Marconi.
Bose refused to patent his semiconductor iron-mercury coherer, advocating open-source scientific knowledge for humanity. Turning to biophysics, he invented the crescograph (capable of magnifying plant movement 10,000 times), proving that plant tissues possess cellular electrical impulses and nervous systems analogous to animals.
