Biographical Record
After studying Italian High Renaissance sculpture in Rome, Du Broeucq returned to Mons in 1535. Appointed court architect to Mary of Hungary, Governess of the Netherlands, he designed the sumptuous Renaissance châteaux of Binche and Mariemont, the grandest imperial palaces of their time.
Between 1540 and 1549, he carved the monumental marble and alabaster rood screen (jubé) and relief statues in the Collegiate Church of Sainte-Waudru in Mons, which remain among the greatest Renaissance sculptures in northern Europe. In his Mons atelier, he trained the young Giambologna.
