Jacques Anquetil (1934–1987), celebrated as Monsieur Chrono for his majestic, aerodynamic elegance against the clock, was the first cyclist in history to win the Tour de France five times. Anquetil dominated the Tour in 1957, 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964.

He was the first rider to win all three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España). In 1965, he pulled off one of endurance sports' greatest feats: winning the 8-day Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, flying overnight on a private jet to Bordeaux, and winning the grueling 557-kilometer Bordeaux-Paris race the following morning.
