Inigo Jones (1573–1652 CE) traveled to Italy with the Earl of Arundel, studying Palladio's villas firsthand with his copy of I Quattro Libri in hand.

Appointed Surveyor of the King's Works to James I and Charles I, he replaced Tudor brick clutter with classical white stone harmony at the Queen's House in Greenwich and the Banqueting House at Whitehall.
