Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi was an Indian politician and central figure of the Indian National Congress. She was the first and, to date, only female Prime Minister of India, serving from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. She led India to decisive victory in the 1971 war, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh.
