Biographical Record
Ibrahim Sharif was a seasoned military commander who put an end to the tyrannical rule of Murad III in 1702. Travelled to Istanbul, he secured an imperial decree from the Ottoman Sultan abolishing the Muradid Beylik and uniting all administrative, military, and civilian powers in himself as Dey and Bey of Tunis.
In 1705, facing an invasion by the Dey of Algiers at the Battle of Le Kef, Ibrahim Sharif was defeated and taken prisoner to Algiers. In the power vacuum, his cavalry commander Husayn ibn Ali returned to Tunis and was proclaimed Bey, founding the Husainid Dynasty.
