Archival Overview
Youthful seventh Sultan of the Almoravid Empire who was proclaimed ruler in Marrakech following his father Tashfin's death in 1145.
Biographical Record
Ibrahim ibn Tashfin was proclaimed Sultan of the Almoravid Empire in Marrakech in 1145 while still in his early adolescence. Guided by loyal ministers and his great-uncle Ishaq, the young monarch faced the relentless advance of the Almohad armies under Caliph Abd al-Mu'min.
Despite his tender years, Ibrahim remained inside the besieged imperial capital of Marrakech, inspiring the royal guard to withstand an agonizing eleven-month siege. When Almohad forces finally scaled the city walls in March 1147, Ibrahim perished alongside his royal kin, marking the end of the Almoravid golden age in Morocco.
