Archival Overview
Prominent Bey of Constantine originating from the El Milia region, who unified mountainous tribal confederations with urban administration in eastern Algeria.
Biographical Record
Ibrahim Bey, surnamed El Mili from his ancestral roots in the forested mountains of El Milia (Jijel province), served as Bey of Constantine in the late eighteenth century. Possessing deep familial and tribal alliances across the northern coastal ranges, he bridged the gap between urban Regency administration and independent mountain tribes.
Ibrahim Bey expanded market access for iron, cork, and grain from the Kabyle and Jijel hinterlands into Constantine. His equitable tax policies and support for local scholars earned him widespread respect, maintaining regional stability and security across eastern Algeria.
