"What can my enemies do to me? My garden and my paradise are in my heart; wherever I go, they are with me. My imprisonment is seclusion with God, my death is martyrdom, and my exile is a spiritual journey."

Archival Overview

Formidable Hanbali jurist and theologian who led intellectual resistance against Mongol hegemony and theological syncretism. Authored Majmu al-Fatawa, advocating a return to the direct methodology of early Islam (Salaf).

Biographical Record

Fleeing Harran as a child before the Mongol armies, Ibn Taymiyyah was educated in Damascus, mastering hadith, jurisprudence, and Arabic syntax. He fearlessly led resistance against the Ilkhanate Mongol incursions, issuing decisive legal rulings affirming defense of the homeland.

His uncompromising critiques of philosophical scholasticism and mystical excesses resulted in repeated imprisonments in Cairo, Alexandria, and the Citadel of Damascus. Deprived of ink and paper during his final confinement, he passed away in the Citadel, his funeral attended by hundreds of thousands.
