Archival Overview
Eminent 14th-century Damascene jurist and spiritual psychologist, author of 'Madarij al-Salikin' and 'Zad al-Ma'ad'.
Biographical Record
Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, universally known as Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, was born in Damascus and became the closest disciple and intellectual heir of Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah, enduring imprisonment alongside him in the Citadel of Damascus for his independent legal positions.
Ibn al-Qayyim combined rigorous Hanbali legal analysis with profound spiritual psychology. His masterpiece Madarij al-Salikin (Ranks of the Seekers) provides a systematic psychological map of the human soul's ascent toward divine love and moral purification. His works on prophetic medicine and legal reform (I'lam al-Muwaqqi'in) remain pillars of Islamic ethical philosophy.
