Archival Overview

Monumental 13th-century Moroccan historian whose magnum opus al-Bayan al-Mughrib provides the most detailed, irreplaceable chronicle of Islamic North Africa and Andalusia from the 7th to the 13th century.

Biographical Record

Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Adhari was a native of Marrakesh who served as an administrative scholar in Marinid Fez. Confronting the scattered, crumbling state of western Islamic historical records, he spent decades consulting primary chancery archives, royal letters, and eyewitness accounts.

His masterpiece Al-Bayan al-Mughrib fi Akhbar al-Andalus wa al-Maghrib is an irreplaceable treasure for modern global historians, preserving complete lost texts of earlier Andalusian and Maghrebi historians, recording dynastic transitions, tax rolls, and urban battles with unmatched precision.
