Biographical Record
Abu Muhammad Abdallah Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani was the undisputed intellectual giant of 10th-century Ifriqiya. Residing in Kairouan, he championed Sunni Maliki orthodoxy during the intense theological tensions of the Fatimid era.
At age seventeen, he composed Al-Risala (The Epistle), a concise, elegant masterpiece of Maliki legal doctrine, ritual practice, and creed that became the standard manual of Islamic education across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and West Africa. His scholarly authority earned him the immortal title 'Shaykh al-Malikiyya' (Master of the Malikis).
