Archival Overview

Formidable Grand Vizier under Sultan Abu Inan Faris who oversaw the construction of the Bou Inania Madrasas of Fez and Meknes and supervised imperial taxation.

Biographical Record

Faris ibn Abi Amr was the executive mastermind behind the domestic achievements of Sultan Abu Inan Faris. Entrusted with the imperial exchequer and the ministry of construction, he supervised the design and material financing of the Bou Inania Madrasa in Fez, securing marble, cedarwood, and master stuccoworkers from throughout Morocco and al-Andalus.

His centralizing administrative efficiency made him numerous enemies among the Zenata tribal military chiefs, who engineered his execution shortly after Sultan Abu Inan's demise in 1358.
