Biographical Record
Hocine Aït Ahmed was born in the Djurdjura mountains of Kabylie. At age twenty-two, he succeeded Mohamed Belouizdad as national head of the covert Organisation Spéciale (OS), drafting the strategic report advocating revolutionary armed guerrilla war.
As chief diplomat of the FLN abroad, he represented Algeria at the historic 1955 Bandung Conference and the United Nations. Hijacked aboard the Moroccan royal plane with Ben Bella in 1956, he spent years in French prisons. In 1963, he founded the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), remaining the moral conscience of Algerian democratic opposition until his passing in 2015.
