Biographical Record

Hemachandra (1088–1172 CE) was an intellectual prodigy who advised King Siddharaja and converted his successor King Kumarapala to Jainism.

Under his influence, Gujarat became a non-violent kingdom banning animal slaughter and hunting; he authored the Siddha-Hema grammar, the Trishashtishalaka-purushacharitra, and philosophical treatises on Anekantavada.
