Biographical Record

Ascending the throne at age sixteen, Hayam Wuruk toured his empire extensively on royal circuits, ensuring agrarian welfare, tax equity, and religious harmony between Shivaite Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism. His court poet Mpu Prapanca chronicled his enlightened reign in the palm-leaf epic Nagarakretagama.

His capital at Trowulan was a bustling cosmopolitan maritime center trading with China, India, and Champa, celebrated as the pinnacle of classical Indonesian civilization.
