Hannie Schaft

Hannie Schaft was studying law at the University of Amsterdam when Nazi occupation authorities demanded an oath of loyalty from students. Refusing to sign, she quit university, sheltered Jewish fellow students, and joined the armed resistance group Raad van Verzet (Council of Resistance).

Known as 'the girl with the red hair', Schaft carried out bold bicycle assassinations of high-ranking Nazi officers and collaborators alongside Truus and Freddie Oversteegen. Captured at a military checkpoint with illegal newspapers and a pistol, she was executed just three weeks before the war ended.
