Biographical Record
Halldis Moren was born on November 18, 1907, in Trysil, Hedmark, the daughter of author Sven Moren. She married novelist Tarjei Vesaas in 1934 and settled at Midtbø farm in Vinje, where she balanced family life with a brilliant literary career.
Vesaas gained wide renown for her courageous, humanistic lyric poetry written in luminous Nynorsk, exploring female identity, motherhood, love, and social solidarity. During the grim dark years of World War II occupation, her poem 'Tung tids tale' (Words for Hard Times) gave enduring strength to the Norwegian resistance. She translated over fifty major plays by Shakespeare, Racine, Molière, and Brecht for the Norwegian Theatre (Det Norske Teatret).
