Biographical Record
Arezki Chaieb, celebrated across North Africa as Hadj M'rizek, grew up in the Souk El Djemâa quarter of the Casbah of Algiers. Mentored in classical Andalusian vocal arts, he revolutionized urban popular song by infusing rhythmic vitality and melodic agility into traditional qasidas.
Mastering the Algerian mandole and tambourine (tar), M'rizek became a household legend with classics like 'El Ghafour', 'El Qahwa Wel Latay', and 'Moulat Salef Et-Touil'.
