Hadj Abderrahmane

Hadj Abderrahmane was born in Mila and raised in the Casbah of Algiers, starting his theatrical career as lighting technician and stage actor under Allel El Mouhib. Possessing an unmatched gift for physical comedy, satirical burlesque, and witty wordplay, he created the character of 'L'Inspecteur Tahar', an eccentric, tall, trench-coated provincial detective.

Teamed with Yahia Benmabrouk ('L'Apprenti'), their hilarious comedic partnership in films such as 'Les Vacances de l'Inspecteur Tahar' (1973) and 'L'Inspecteur marque le but' became the greatest popular comedy franchise in Algerian film history. His sudden death in 1981 at age forty plunged the entire nation into grief.
