Biographical Record

A serene contemplative who spent twenty years in deep meditation at Bakala, Guru Tegh Bahadur founded the holy city of Anandpur Sahib. His hymns, filled with profound reflections on the transient nature of mortal reality and inner detachment, are incorporated into the Guru Granth Sahib.

When a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits sought his aid against imperial religious persecution, he offered his own life, enduring imprisonment in Delhi and public beheading at Chandni Chowk rather than renounce the divine freedom of conscience.
