Guru Har Krishan Ji, often revered affectionately as Bal Guru ('The Child Guru'), proved that spiritual maturity is utterly independent of physical age. Anointed eighth Guru at the age of five years and three months, his serene presence radiate profound enlightenment.

Humbling the Proud Pandit

While traveling to Delhi, an arrogant Brahmin scholar named Lal Chand mocked the child Guru, demanding that he explain the intricate Sanskrit verses of the Bhagavad Gita. In response, Guru Har Krishan called forward Chhajju Ram—an illiterate, deaf-mute water carrier from the village. Touching him with his walking stick, the water carrier immediately began delivering profound, flawless philosophical discourses on the Gita, moving Lal Chand to fall at the Guru's feet in tearful repentance.

The Ultimate Sacrifice at Bangla Sahib

Invited to Delhi by Raja Jai Singh, the Guru stayed at his palace (now the famous Gurdwara Bangla Sahib). At that time, a devastating outbreak of smallpox and cholera struck Delhi, filling the streets with corpses. The seven-year-old Guru walked through the alleys daily, feeding the sick, bathing their wounds, and distributing sanctified water. Refusing to flee, he absorbed the suffering of the population, contracted smallpox, and passed away peacefully after whispering 'Baba Bakale', pointing to his great-uncle Guru Tegh Bahadur as his successor.
