Biographical Record

Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena (1917–1965) built his own radio transmitters as a teenager. In 1940, at age twenty-three, he received Mexican and US patents for a trichromatic sequential system using red, green, and blue rotating filters to capture and broadcast color video images.

In 1952, he launched Canal 5 in Mexico City, designing television for educational broadcast. NASA famously adapted his simplified color system in 1979 for Voyager spacecraft cameras to beam back stunning color images of Jupiter and Saturn.
