Commissioned by fellow Belgian virtuoso Eugène Ysaÿe, Lekeu completed his sublime Violin Sonata in G major in 1892, characterized by soaring chromatic melodies and tragic yearning. One day after his twenty-fourth birthday, typhoid fever extinguished his incandescent genius.
