Archival Overview

Premier Bolognese master of classical Baroque painting whose ceiling fresco 'Aurora' and celestial, idealized religious canvases earned him the title 'The Divine'.

Biographical Record

Guido Reni (1575–1642 CE) studied at the Carracci Academy in Bologna before moving to Rome, becoming the favorite artist of the Borghese Papacy.

His masterwork fresco Aurora at the Casino Rospigliosi combined Raphael's classical grace with radiant Baroque golden dawn; in the 17th and 18th centuries, his fame rivaled Raphael.
