Biographical Record
Gregoria Apaza was an Aymara revolutionary leader and sister of Julian Apaza (Tupac Katari). When the great indigenous rebellion of Upper Peru erupted in 1781, she assumed direct military command alongside Katari's wife, Bartolina Sisa.
Apaza commanded indigenous encampments, organized supply lines, and led combat troops during the six-month siege of Spanish-held La Paz. Following the betrayal of the rebellion, she was captured by royalist forces and executed on the Plaza Mayor of La Paz in September 1781.
