Giuseppe Meazza (1910–1979), nicknamed 'Il Balilla', scored thirty-one goals in his debut season for Ambrosiana-Inter at age nineteen. Renowned for hypnotic dribbling, bicycle kicks, and coolly feinting goalkeepers to walk the ball into the net ('gol alla Meazza'), he scored 284 goals for Inter.

Under manager Vittorio Pozzo, Meazza led Italy to victory on home soil at the 1934 World Cup and captained the Azzurri to retain their crown in Paris in 1938. In 1980, Milan's legendary San Siro stadium was officially renamed the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in his immortal honor.
