Gilles Deleuze (1925–1995) taught at the radical University of Paris VIII (Vincennes), electrifying students with lectures on Spinoza, Nietzsche, and cinema. In his 1968 doctoral thesis 'Difference et Repetition', he overthrew Western representation, establishing an immanent ontology of pure difference and rhizomatic multiplicity.
Partnering with psychoanalyst Felix Guattari, he published 'Anti-Oedipus' (1972) and 'A Thousand Plateaus' (1980), analyzing desire not as lack, but as an affirmative productive machine. His concepts—the rhizome, deterritorialization, lines of flight, and the body without organs—shaped cultural theory, art, and cinema studies.
