Biographical Record

Georgy Zhukov (1896–1974) pioneered Soviet Deep Battle operations, first routing the Imperial Japanese Army at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 with armored pincers. When the Axis invaded the USSR in 1941, Zhukov rallied the frozen defense of Moscow, unleashing the Siberian counter-offensive that saved the capital.

He coordinated Operation Uranus, encircling the German Sixth Army at Stalingrad, engineered the victory at Kursk (1943), and directed the Vistula-Oder offensive that culminated in storming the Reichstag in Berlin and accepting Germany's unconditional surrender.
