George Hackenschmidt (1877–1968) set world weightlifting records before turning to Greco-Roman and catch-as-catch-can wrestling, remaining undefeated across more than 3,000 matches between 1889 and 1908 through superhuman power, agility, and a strict vegetarian lifestyle.

Hackenschmidt became a global celebrity following his legendary 1908 and 1911 world championship bouts against Frank Gotch in Chicago. Retiring to England, he authored philosophical treatises on human consciousness, physical culture, and physical fitness that transformed modern bodybuilding.
