Biographical Record
Trained as an opera singer at the Paris Conservatoire, Rosay made her stage debut at the Palais Garnier before marrying Belgian film director Jacques Feyder in 1917, becoming his artistic collaborator and muse in classic films including Le Grand Jeu (1934) and Pension Mimosas (1935).
Her crowning triumph was the Burgomaster's formidable wife Cornelia in La Kermesse héroïque (Carnival in Flanders, 1935), leading the women of the town to disarm invading Spanish troops with lavish hospitality. Fleeing occupied France in 1940, she broadcast regularly on Radio Londres for General de Gaulle.
