The undisputed grand diva of classical Algiers vocal art (Assimi and Hawzi) whose golden voice, emotional warmth, and active clandestine support for the FLN made her a national treasure.
Biographical Record
Fadhila Madani, crowned by the public as Fadila Dziria ('Fadila the Algerian'), was born in the bustling Casbah of Algiers. Discovered on radio in the 1930s by Mahieddine Bachtarzi, she captivated audiences with her velvety vocal richness and flawless mastery of Assimi and Andalusian suites.
During the Algerian War of Independence, Fadila secretly funneled performance earnings to the FLN and sheltered freedom fighters, leading to her arrest and imprisonment in the notorious Barberousse Prison in 1957. Following independence, she continued to headline national cultural festivals with classics like 'Ena Touechi' and 'Mal Hbibi Malou'.
