In 1970, Cabral recorded 'No soy de aquí, ni soy de allá', which was translated and recorded in dozens of languages by Julio Iglesias, Neil Diamond, and Alberto Cortez. In 1996, UNESCO declared him a World Messenger of Peace. On July 9, 2011, he was tragically shot and killed in an ambush in Guatemala City, triggering continental mourning.
