In October 1965, President Joseph Kasa-Vubu appointed Kimba Prime Minister of the DRC. Following General Mobutu's military coup, Kimba and three former ministers (Jérôme Anany, Emmanuel Bamba, and Alexandre Mahamba) were falsely accused of plotting a counter-coup.
