Biographical Record
Ernest Ouandie was born in 1924 in Badoumla, western Cameroon. Trained as a teacher, his fierce eloquence and organizational talent led to his election as Vice-President of the UPC in 1952.
Following the murders of Um Nyobe in 1958 and Moumie in 1960, Ouandie returned clandestinely to Cameroon in 1961, establishing the Armée de Libération Nationale du Kamerun (ALNK) in the western mountain forests. For a decade, he led guerrilla resistance against the Ahmadou Ahidjo regime and French military advisers. Arrested in August 1970 alongside Bishop Albert Ndongmo, he was condemned by a military tribunal and executed by firing squad in Bafoussam on January 15, 1971.
