Notice / Correction
"Felicior Augusto, melior Traiano. (May you be luckier than Augustus and better than Trajan.) I wish to be the kind of emperor toward my subjects that I would have wished to rule over me were I a subject."

Archival Overview

Second of the "Five Good Emperors" and declared by the Roman Senate as Optimus Princeps (The Best Ruler). Conquered Dacia and Parthia, expanding the Roman Empire to its greatest territorial extent in history.

Biographical Record

The first Roman emperor born outside Italy (in Roman Hispania), Trajan combined military prowess with extraordinary civil benevolence. He funded welfare programs (Alimenta) for impoverished children across Italy, built extensive roads, bridges across the Danube, and inaugurated Trajan's Forum and Column in Rome.

His military victories annexed Dacia, Arabia Petraea, and Mesopotamia, reaching the Persian Gulf. Passing away while returning from the East, his ashes were placed in a golden urn within the base of Trajan's Column.
