Biographical Record

Ascending the Dragon Throne at age seven, Kangxi ousted the regent Oboi at fifteen, suppressed the devastating Revolt of the Three Feudatories, and negotiated the Treaty of Nerchinsk with Tsarist Russia. He toured southern China repeatedly to inspect dykes along the Yellow River.

He welcomed Jesuit mathematicians and cartographers to court while ensuring deep Confucian scholarly patronage, compiling the Kangxi Dictionary (47,000 characters) and inaugurating the century-long High Qing era of global economic preeminence.
