Biographical Record
Edvard Beneš was born in Kožlany on May 28, 1884. Earning doctorates in law from Dijon and philosophy from Prague, Beneš became Masaryk's chief diplomatic strategist during World War I, organizing the secret resistance network Maffie.
As Foreign Minister (1918–1935) and President of the League of Nations council, Beneš was a master of international diplomacy. Forced into exile by the disastrous 1938 Munich Agreement, he established the London Czechoslovak government-in-exile, obtaining nullification of Munich and guiding his liberated nation back to peace in 1945.
