Archival Overview
Prodigious English footballer and jewel of Matt Busby's 'Busby Babes', widely considered by contemporaries to be the most complete footballer England ever produced.
Biographical Record
Duncan Edwards signed with Manchester United as a schoolboy and made his First Division debut at just sixteen years old, becoming the youngest post-war player in the league. Capable of playing in every outfield position, his immense physical strength, passing vision, and leadership were legendary.
Edwards won two consecutive League Championships with United and won eighteen England caps before his twenty-first birthday. Tragically, he died fifteen days after the Munich air disaster in February 1958 at age twenty-one, mourned as an unfulfilled legend who would have captained England to greatness.
