Biographical Record

Dorothy Day (1897-1980) est l'une des personnalités les plus marquantes du catholicisme social et du radicalisme pacifiste américain. En 1933, en pleine Grande Dépression, elle cofonde avec Peter Maurin le journal The Catholic Worker et un réseau de « maisons d'hospitalité » offrant gîte et nourriture gratuits aux sans-abri et aux chômeurs.

Pratiquant la pauvreté volontaire et l'objection de conscience intégrale face à toutes les guerres, elle fut arrêtée de nombreuses fois pour désobéissance civile non-violente (la dernière fois à 75 ans aux côtés des ouvriers agricoles de César Chávez).
