Biographical Record

William Ralph 'Dixie' Dean began working on the railways before joining Tranmere Rovers and then Everton in 1925. Despite suffering a fractured skull in a motorcycle accident in 1926, he recovered to become the most devastating aerial goalscorer in British football history.

In the 1927-1928 season, Dean scored 60 First Division goals in 39 matches—a record that has never been surpassed in English football history. Over his career, he scored 383 goals in 433 appearances for Everton, dying fittingly at Goodison Park while watching a Merseyside derby in 1980.
