Dennis Chukude Osadebay was born on June 29, 1911, in Asaba, Delta State. In 1952, he published Africa Sings, one of the earliest English-language poetry volumes by a West African, celebrating African identity and decrying colonialism.
A key strategist of the NCNC, Osadebay served as Leader of the Opposition in the Western Region House of Assembly and President of the Senate of Nigeria.
