Biographical Record
Dawud ibn Idris was the son of Moulay Idris II and Princess Kenza. Upon the division of the realm by his brother Muhammad I in 828 AD, Dawud received the strategic mountainous province of Taza and the Houara tribal lands guarding the vital Taza Gap corridor.
Prince Dawud governed with exceptional wisdom, constructing forts to safeguard merchant caravans and pilgrims traveling between Fez, Tlemcen, and Kairouan. He established schools of Quranic learning in Taza, laying the foundations for the city's later architectural flowering under the Almohads and Marinids.
