Biographical Record
David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896–1974) fought in the Constitutionalist Army during the Mexican Revolution and joined the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. He insisted that art must belong to the working class on public walls, rejecting easel painting as bourgeois ornament.
Siqueiros pioneered synthetic acrylics, airbrushes, and photographic projection to create dynamic, swirling kinetic murals like 'Portrait of the Bourgeoisie' (1939) and the monumental Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros (1971), the largest mural in the world.
