Biographical Record
Christine Anne Perfect was born in Bouth, Lancashire, England, to a classical violinist and music teacher father. She studied sculpture at art college in Birmingham while singing in blues bands, joining Chicken Shack in 1967 and winning the Melody Maker award for best female vocalist two years in a row. In 1968, she married Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie, officially joining the group in 1970.
When Americans Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in late 1974, McVie's warm contralto vocals, blues-rooted piano, and melodic pop genius anchored the band's commercial transformation. On their epochal 1977 album Rumours—one of the best-selling albums in history—she authored and sang the euphoric anthem "Don't Stop," the romantic masterpiece "You Make Loving Fun," and the transcendent solo piano ballad "Songbird." In the 1980s, her songs "Everywhere" and "Little Lies" propelled the smash album Tango in the Night. McVie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Fleetwood Mac in 1998 and received the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
