Biographical Record
Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to Italian-American parents and learned piano and drums in early childhood. After moving to New York City, he played with Stan Getz and Sarah Vaughan before joining Miles Davis's legendary band during its groundbreaking late-1960s transition to jazz fusion, playing electric piano on milestone albums including In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew.
In 1971, Corea formed Return to Forever, leading the jazz-fusion movement with fiery Latin rhythms and synthesizer experimentation. A prolific composer of jazz standards such as "Spain", "La Fiesta", and "500 Miles High", his virtuosity bridged acoustic post-bop, classical chamber music, and electrifying jazz-rock, making him one of the most decorated artists in Grammy history.
