Joseph Kabache, celebrated universally by his affectionate artistic name Cheikh Zouzou, was born in the old rock city of Constantine. Mastering the classical violin held vertically upon the knee in the authentic Maghrebi style, his bowing technique was renowned for its astonishing precision and lyrical delicacy.
