Biographical Record
Born into the noble Ahl Taleb Mokhtar scholarly lineage of the eastern Mauritanian Hodh, Cheikh Mohamed El Fadel completed his education in Maliki jurisprudence and hadith before formulating a profound spiritual synthesis of the Qadiri and Shadhili paths.
His zawiya became the greatest nomadic university of the Sahara, welcoming thousands of disciples regardless of race or caste. He trained his sons, including Cheikh Tourad and Cheikh Ma El Aïnin, to build schools, end inter-tribal warfare, and resist French military incursions across the western Sahara.
